Tsubame (燕)

About

Named after the Japanese Barn Swallow, the cup features an approachable silhouette and comfortable handle that is meant to be “worn” on the middle finger as the mug nestles comfortably in the hand. To complement the brand and ethos of the approachable nature of the couple-owned, window service coffee stand, the mug is kept visually minimal but highly functional and easy to clean to promote an efficient workflow in the tiny cafe. Tsubame features a petite but comfortable handle designed to fit different user needs. The rounded interior bottom was thoughtfully shaped and trimmed for easy latte art pours and cleaning.

Challenge

To design a mug that caters to the user's needs while maintaining the brand visuals and aesthetics.

Solution

A cozy, approachable, speckled 6oz vessel that can be held like a traditional mug but also cupped comfortably in the palm with one hand.

Medium
